Most people instantly recognize Michael Jackson’s speaking voice.
In interviews, he usually spoke softly, gently and in a noticeably high register.
But rare recordings and candid moments reveal something surprising: Michael could also speak considerably deeper.
That difference became even more intriguing after people close to him talked publicly about it.
In 2002, Liza Minnelli told Larry King that she once unexpectedly heard Michael speaking to her then-husband David Gest in a completely different voice. When Michael realized she was listening, she remembered him immediately switching back to his familiar public tone.
Gest also insisted that Michael’s private voice could be much stronger and lower than audiences expected.
