Growing up is full of big moments, like going to high school prom and walking across the stage at graduation. But what happens when you have to miss your own prom because you are busy becoming a national TV star? That is exactly what happened to Lucas Leon, a talented seventeen-year-old singer from Gallatin, Tennessee.
Lucas spent his senior year competing on American Idol Season 24. He made it all the way into the Top 9 by blowing the judges away with his soulful voice and acoustic guitar. Millions of people watched him perform every single week, but traveling to Hollywood meant he had to leave his normal teenage life behind.
Because he was practicing hard for the live shows, Lucas had to miss his school’s actual senior prom.
Every Season Needs A Prom King!
Thankfully, the team at American Idol did not want Lucas to miss out on the high school fun. During a recent live broadcast, the show’s famous host, Ryan Seacrest, decided to give the teenager a massive surprise. Right there on national television, Ryan pulled out a shiny crown and playfully named Lucas the official “Prom King” of the entire season!
Lucas stood on the big stage, a giant smile on his face, looking completely shocked by the surprise Idol pulled for him! It was a sweet, wholesome moment that showed how much the Idol family cared about their youngest contestants.
Lucas On His Graduation
Even though Lucas missed out on some normal school activities, his classmates and teachers never stopped cheering him on. As soon as his time on the show ended, Lucas packed his bags and flew straight back home to Tennessee just in time for the Class of 2026 graduation ceremony.
Instead of just sitting in the audience, Lucas was asked to do something incredibly special. Wearing his bright red graduation gown and holding his favorite guitar, he stood before his entire school and performed his original song, “The crazy kind,” for them!
This proves that while some doors close, many open!
