What would you do if a Hollywood producer told you your dream was a bad idea? Most people would change their plans. But American Idol Season 24 winner Hannah Harper did the exact opposite, and it turned her into a superstar.
Hannah recently sat down with TV Insider and shared a shocking secret.
Before she walked into her very first audition, backstage bosses warned her not to sing an original song. They told her that the judges—Luke Bryan, Lionel Richie, and Carrie Underwood—hate hearing brand-new music. Producers said the judges always prefer a famous song they already know and can sing along with. They even made Hannah prepare a backup cover song just in case.

Hannah had a choice to make. She could play it safe, or she could trust her gut. She chose her gut. Hannah walked into the audition room and sang her original song, “String Cheese,” a deeply personal country song she wrote while struggling as a mom of three boys.
The risk paid off instantly. Instead of being annoyed, the judges were completely blown away. The song was so raw and beautiful that it actually made Carrie Underwood cry. Carrie told her it was the most relatable track she had ever heard. Within hours, the clip went totally viral online. Today, “String Cheese” has millions of streams on Spotify!
The journey that started with a scary warning ended in total victory. Hannah didn’t just survive the competition; she conquered it. During the star-studded grand finale, she stood on the stage as a top finalist and sang “String Cheese” one more time for America.
