When Tina Turner Out-Danced Mick Jagger in Rock History

In 1988, the city of Osaka became the center of the rock and roll universe for one special night. Mick Jagger was traveling across Japan on his very first solo tour. He knew he needed something huge to make the show perfect. so he called up the one person who could truly keep up with him.

At forty-eight years old, Tina Turner stepped onto that stage and showed everyone what real stamina looks like. It became their famous version of ‘Brown Sugar.’

That magical night in Japan was a beautiful follow-up to a moment that shocked the world three years earlier.

Before they were conquering Osaka, these two friends stood together on a much bigger stage in Philadelphia for Live Aid. It was a hot July day in 1985 when they decided to show off what true rock and roll chemistry looked like.

In this video, Mick was full of his usual energy. But the most famous part happened when he playfully tugged at Tina’s outfit during the song. The crowd of nearly one hundred thousand people went absolutely wild after what Tina did.
