The Night Cher Proved There Really Is “No Limit” on Stage

One song, one voice, and a Vegas crowd that did not know what was coming. Cher steps up, grabs an old Eagles tune, and pushes every note a little further than you expect. You do not need to be a fan to feel how hard this performance hits.

Most people know the song for those high, floating notes from the Eagles. Cher does the opposite. She drops it down into that deep, rich contralto and turns the ballad into a slow-burning rock anthem.

You can feel the Heart of Stone era all over this moment. Big hair, big drums, big attitude. But there is also something very simple happening.

By the time she reaches the last chorus, she is playing with the line “take it to the limit” like it is a dare. The background singers shout it back.

And if “Take It To The Limit” shows Cher stealing a classic and making it hers, “We All Sleep Alone” is the moment she reminds everyone she already has the hits to back it up. Same night, same Mirage stage, totally different energy. The cover feels raw and soulful; this one is full-on Vegas drama, black Mackie outfit, dancers, and blazing guitars. Together, they show both sides of her Heart of Stone era: tough, emotional, and larger than life.

Cher – We All Sleep Alone (Cher: Extravaganza – Live At The Mirage, 02/04/91)

This Heart of Stone–era interview was filmed the same year as the concert, it catches her in a very different setting: no scaffolding, no dancers, just a dark blazer, a video set, and a woman tired of being picked apart. She talks about ugly tabloids, rumors about her family, and why she sometimes hides a serious message inside all that glitter.
