The moment Sydnie Christmas took the Britain’s Got Talent stage, she won hearts with her phenomenal voice and captivating stage presence. Her journey to be crowned BGT winner felt like a real life fairytale, but there was much more to her story off screen as well. The glamorous performances and standing ovations conceal a tale of dedication, resilience and years of hard work that brought her to this career-defining moment.
Sydnie, who was born in Gravesend in Kent, started polishing her singing skills at a very young age. She was already singing at 4 when she recorded her first song, as her grandmother recalls her ‘never not singing.’ But she was also a rugby player before entirely throwing herself into music, so she had the grit and determination to succeed in anything she did. That same drive took her to the D&B Academy of Performing Arts, where she trained in singing, acting and dancing, creating the powerhouse performer we know and love today.
What Britain’s Got Talent Didn’t Tell You About Sydnie Christmas
Sydnie’s career started well ahead of her BGT victory. She made her stage debut in the David Bowie jukebox musical Lazarusat King’s Cross Theatre. She went on to star in central productions at the Royal Caribbean’s Independence of the Seas and Quantum of the Seas, performing in classics such as Grease and Starlight Express. While cruise ship performances were remarkable for honing her craft, there were struggles behind the scenes, pushing through challenges to realize her parallel dream.
And if her BGT performances blew you away, you have to check out her show-stopping performance of Tomorrow from Annie. That made for one of the most memorable auditions in BGT history, and it serves to show that Sydnie is not only a talented singer — she’s a once-in-a-generation voice.
