The historic Bargate in Southampton was transformed into a festive wonderland on Friday night when the city started the holiday season with its annual Christmas lights switch-on celebration. The big moment of the night was Sydnie Christmas, Britain’s Got Talent winner, who killed it with her “Proud Mary” performance. Channeling the powerful energy and stage presence of Tina Turner, Sydnie nailed every high note and added a dazzling spin to the performance.

Sydnie was joined on stage by comedian Kev Orkian, who will be starring in the upcoming pantomime Jack and the Beanstalk at the Mayflower Theatre. The duo together flipped the switch to light up the city in a dazzling display of Christmas lights.

Reflecting on the magical event, Kev Orkian had the following statement: “It was such an incredible experience to be in Southampton today, turning on the Christmas lights for such an amazing audience. The energy, joy, and festive spirit were truly magical. I can’t wait to return to the iconic Mayflower Theatre this year for the panto. Starring alongside the incredible Ashley Banjo and Diversity, this year’s show is going to be epic—filled with surprises, laughter, and unforgettable moments!”

With the festive spirit in full swing, Southampton officially ushered in the holiday season with music, lights, and plenty of cheer.
