Imagine hearing the unmistakable voice of Steven Tyler echoing off the ancient stone walls in the Colosseum, a place that is steeped in Roman history. Instead of gladiators fighting for their lives, the crowd was treated to an unforgettable concert during a charity event called “Celebrity Fight Night”. This particular one was organized by the one and only Andrea Bocelli. The scene was electric, with Tyler on stage, rocking out with his electric guitars and TWO very talented cellists playing in the back.
In Tyler’s book “It’s About Relationships”, Jimmy Walker shares a hilarious moment about this performance. Walker helped start off “Celebrity Fight Night” in both the U.S. and Italy, and helped raise an impressive $132 million for charity. He recalls a video from this perfromance where Tyler entered the Colosseum “chomping on a piece of gum.” When it was time for him to sing Aerosmith’s classic “Dream On,” he casually pulled out the gum and stuck it under Elton John’s piano! Just picture Elton’s face—He was definitely not amused!

The cellists backing Tyler were ‘Luka Šulić’ and ‘Stjepan Hauser’, known as “2CELLOS”. They didn’t just join him for “Dream On” and “Walk This Way”; they also played the “Game of Thrones” theme song and “Funiculi Funicula” alongside Andrea Bocelli. One fan, expressed her excitement on 2CELLOS’ Facebook page after watching their performance on TV:
“I saw the concert on Rai1 TV. It was fantastic! I wish you had played more songs. I loved Steven Tyler’s voice, and seeing you two enjoying playing with him was fabulous.”
Andrea Bocelli and his special guests – Imagine
This concert wasn’t just another show; it was the grand finale of a star-studded gala at the Colosseum. Picture Steven Tyler and Andrea Bocelli singing “Imagine,” with David Foster on piano while Sharon Stone and other celebrities watched in awe. The 2017 concert was part of a luxurious week-long event called “Celebrity Fight Night” in Rome, designed for generous donors to charities. Guests included icons like Sofia Loren and Antonio Banderas, who were all treated to private concerts in Roman palaces.

According to “Wanted In Rome”, The luxury week-long trip costs $72,492 and includes VIP dinners and private concerts at palaces such as Palazzo Colonna and Palazzo Doria Pamphilj. It makes one think about that piece of gum under Elton’s piano, and whether it’s still there collecting history.
