Sofronio Vasquez made history as the first Filipino and Asian winner of “The Voice” in the U.S. His journey to winning Season 26 wasn’t just about his amazing voice. It was also about the love of his family and the support of some unexpected friends, including hip-hop legend Snoop Dogg.
In an interview with ‘Parade,’ Sofronio shared that Snoop’s manager reached out with a fantastic offer: to fly his mom from the Philippines to the U.S. for the finale. That’s right! Snoop Dogg wanted to make sure Sofronio’s mom could be there to see her son’s big moment.
When Sofronio asked his mom if she wanted to come, she gave a thoughtful answer. She said, “No, as much as I would like to be there, I’m so concerned about you having this mindset of ‘I have to think about my mom and not the competition.'” Instead of coming to the U.S., she decided it was better for Sofronio to focus on the competition without worrying about her. That kind of love and support is really special.
After he won, Sofronio went to a wrap party hosted by Snoop. He called it “an awesome experience.” He got to meet different people from the show who had been cheering for him since the start. “It’s good to know that even from the start, they told me, ‘We were rooting for you.’ It’s a compliment,” he said, showing how much he appreciated their support.
Sofronio’s win was a big deal; he became the first Filipino and first Asian winner of The Voice in the U.S. In an interview with Yong Chavez from ‘ABS-CBN’ News, he talked about how winning felt like coming full circle. He said, “I really think that the way to move on and to move further for a possible and a beautiful journey in life is just to keep going. We just have to try and dream.”
He also shared how emotional he felt when Carson Daly announced the winner: “parang nag-break down ako because it’s like a flashback of every rejection, every redirection na oh ito pala ‘yun… Now it was like a culmination of ito pala’ yun, thank you Lord.” His words show how hard work and determination can pay off.
Sofronio Vasquez’s story serves as a reminder that sometimes dreams can come true with effort and support from those who care about us.
