The North Sea Jazz Festival has a long-standing reputation for delivering unforgettable performances by some of the most celebrated names in jazz, soul, and R&B. In 2007, however, the festival surprised fans with an unexpected twist—hip-hop legend Snoop Dogg joined the lineup. On July 15, in Rotterdam’s Ahoy Hall, the “Doggfather” gave a performance that broke down barriers and left a lasting impression on both fans and critics.

There were questions raised when Snoop Dogg’s name was listed on the event lineup. Traditionally, the North Sea Jazz Festival featured musicians with roots in jazz and related genres, so a hip-hop performer looked out of the ordinary. However, all the concerns went away once Snoop stepped onto the stage. With the help of his gifted live band and partners like Kurupt, SoopaFly, and DJ Battle Cat, Snoop created a genre-defying experience by skillfully fusing hip-hop and jazz.

As soon as Snoop stepped on the stage, he grabbed everyone’s attention right away. The arena was lit up by his energy and charisma. Throughout the concert, he kept the crowd excited by shouting, “Put your hands in the air!”

He performed famous songs from his album Doggystyle. The live band gave these songs a fresh new sound. The mix of “gangsta rap” and live instruments felt both familiar and new. Snoop’s setlist showed how much he has grown as an artist. He played both old hits and some newer songs from his album, The Blue Carpet Treatment.

He also honored his work with legends like Dr. Dre and Stevie Wonder. This showed how he blends different styles of music while staying true to himself.
