Reba McEntire is a grandma, and the baby’s name holds a sweet surprise

Reba McEntire, the country singer and actress who’s sold tens of millions of records and now sits in a coaching chair on the TV singing show “The Voice,” has a brand new title to go with the rest of them. Grandma.

Her son, Shelby Blackstock, and his wife, Marissa, shared the happy news on Instagram on October 21. Their first baby, a little boy, had arrived earlier in the month.

“we finally get to call ourselves Mom and Dad,” the couple wrote.

For Reba, who’s 71 and has spent most of her life out on the road singing, this is her first grandchild. Fans who’ve followed her for decades flooded the post with hearts. A lot of them were tearing up right along with her.

Then people looked a little closer at the baby’s name. And that’s the part everyone’s talking about.

The little boy is Shelby Archer McEntire Blackstock. The family’s already calling him “Archie.” Read that full name one more time and you’ll catch what the fans caught. He carries his daddy’s first name, Shelby, and he carries Grandma Reba’s own last name, McEntire, tucked right there in the middle of it. One tiny baby, both sides of the family, wrapped up together in a single name.

Reba had a feeling this little guy was something special long before he showed up.

Back in July the family threw a baby shower with a theme only a country family would dream up. They called it the “Welcome to the World Tour.” Somebody set out a little plaque, signed “Grandma Reba,” that read “Archie Blackstock: A Star is Born.” Right under it, the note went on.

“We’re gonna have so much fun!” it said.

She wasn’t wrong about the fun.

Shelby and Marissa have asked for just one thing from everybody watching. They aren’t going to show the baby’s face online. So the pictures making the rounds are the shower, the tiny outfits, a proud grandma-to-be, and almost nothing of Archie himself. If anything, that’s only made folks more curious about him.

The couple put their first photos and the full story on their own Instagram, along with a look back at that music-themed shower where the name was quietly revealed months ago.

If you’ve got a few minutes, their announcement is worth a scroll. You’ll see the little plaque, the balloons, and a family that waited a long while for this moment and clearly isn’t taking one second of it for granted. Grandma Reba included.
