Priscilla was asked who takes over Elvis’s Graceland. Her answer was pure grandmother.

Priscilla Presley is 81 now. She was Elvis Presley’s wife, and for decades she’s been the one keeping his name and his home alive for the fans who never stopped loving him.

This month she sat down with Sweden’s news agency TT, just before a talk show appearance in Gothenburg. Her son Navarone was right there beside her. And somewhere in the conversation came the question a lot of fans have been quietly wondering about.

Who takes over everything at Graceland?

Graceland is the Memphis mansion Elvis bought as a young man. It’s the house where he lived, and where fans still line up outside the gates every single day. For the Presley family it isn’t just a tourist stop. It’s home, and it holds the heart of everything Elvis left behind.

These days that responsibility sits with Riley Keough. Riley is Priscilla’s granddaughter, the daughter of Lisa Marie Presley, and a well-known actress in her own right. She looks after Graceland now, with Priscilla staying on as an adviser.

So when TT asked whether Riley would take over all of it, you might expect a simple yes.

That’s not what she gave them.

Priscilla didn’t want to put any weight on her granddaughter’s shoulders. “Riley has her own life and is very successful in the film world and in everything she does,” she told the Swedish news agency, in words translated from Swedish. “So I really don’t want to put any pressure on her to take over everything.”

Then came the part that sounds like every grandmother who’s ever loved her family a little too much to boss them around. “If she wants to, of course. But it’s taken care of very well by wonderful people.”

There was no push in it and no expectation, just an open door and a quiet pride in the people already doing the work.

When the talk turned to Elvis himself, Priscilla’s whole face seemed to change. “I get a big smile on my face when I think about it,” she said. “He was obviously very, very popular. And he was a very generous person.” After all this time, that’s still the word she reaches for first. Generous.

There was one more moment worth mentioning. Priscilla pointed out that the tabloids love to invent stories about the family squabbling over all of this. Navarone just smiled beside her and said, “We would never fight.”

Priscilla seemed happy to leave it right there.
