Prince’s Faith: Sex, God, and Music

Prince once famously said he had been to the top of the mountain and found nothing there which led him to a spiritual path that many fans never saw coming.

While the world knew him as a “sexy mofo” and a master of the stage, his closest friends knew a different side of the man.

He spent decades blending the physical with the divine, often confusing critics who couldn’t understand how one person could be so obsessed with both sex and God.

Prince talks about God, religion and spirituality with Chris Rock

For Prince, these weren’t separate worlds. He believed that making people dance was a way to help them find something bigger than themselves. If you look closely at his career, his faith was hidden in plain sight. From the “peace symbol” glowing atop Paisley Park to the Lord’s Prayer recited in the middle of a hit song, he was always sharing his search for the truth.

This journey eventually led him to a very specific door. After years of asking big questions in his music, he found his answers in a way that surprised the media. It wasn’t a sudden change, but a slow burn that started long before he officially changed his life.

This spiritual spark started much earlier than most people realize. In an interview with Chris Rock, Prince talked about how he viewed the world before he ever joined an organized group. He moved away from the fear-based messages he heard as a kid and leaned into a more loving view of the creator.

He joked that God doesn’t whip his children, but simply gives them a “timeout”.

It’s clear that Prince’s music was his own personal conversation with the divine. Whether he was singing about a “Purple Rain” or a “Holy River,” he was inviting us all to join him on that mountain. His life proves that you can be a rock star and a seeker at the same time.

To really feel the energy he was talking about, you have to hear the music for yourself.
