When Post Malone Crashed a Corporate Gig and Made Music History with Sublime

Michael Stevens

Here’s something you didn’t know: Post Malone is a fan of “Sublime.” That’s right, the “Better Now” singer has given us a number of Sublime covers over the year but the past weekend he took the admiration to the next level. At a special event for “Power Home Remodeling’s” annual retreat called ‘Quest’ Malone made a surprise appearance on Sublime’s concert.

Fans absolutely lost it during this moment. Sublime was casually playing their classic 1996 hit, “What I Got,” with Jakob Nowell—son of the legendary Bradley Nowell—on the lead vocals. Then, suddenly, Post Malone strolls onto the stage, dressed casually in jeans, a flannel, and a baseball cap, and starts singing as if this isn’t the most iconic mashup of all time.

“Well, life is too short, so love the one you got/’Cause you might get run over, or you might get shot…”

The crowd was still in disbelief as Post Malone and Jakob sang the famous chorus together:

“Lovin’ is what I got/ I said remember that.”

It was one of those moments that made everyone forget they were at a corporate event. Crazy, right?

Well, this isn’t the first time Post Malone has pulled something like this. Post Malone teamed up with Sublime for the first time back in 2019, during his ‘Dive Bar Tour’ to sing “Santeria.” And later, Sublime returned the favor by covering Post malone’s famous song “Goodbyes.”

And just last year, while touring in New Zealand, Posty made a surprise visit to a small pub in Auckland and performed a country-style version of “What I Got.” I think it’s clear the song holds meaning to Post Malone. At first glance, it might seem like an odd pair, but its the perfect fit. Post’s music mixes so many styles—rap, rock, country—that he fits right in with Sublime’s chill, reggae-punk vibe.

It’s not just about singing together; it’s about celebrating the music they both love. Watching Jakob Nowell continue his father’s legacy while teaming up with a star like Post Malone is truly special.

When you put Post Malone and Sublime together, magic happens. Their performances remind us why we love music—it brings people together and keeps excellent songs alive.

So, the next time you hear “What I Got,” imagine Post Malone and Jakob Nowell singing their hearts out. And who knows? One day, Posty will surprise you at a show, too!
