This Young Singer Took On “We Are the Champions” And Turned A Farm Into A Concert

Most people in the crowd had never heard the name Mickey Callisto before that night. But once he started “We Are the Champions,” the festival in Northern Ireland felt less like a local show and more like a full Queen tribute concert, with everyone joining in.

From the first line, the crowd knew this was different. His voice carried that big, fearless power Queen fans love, but it never felt like an impression. It felt like a thank you letter to Freddie, written in Mickey’s own handwriting.

Mickey’s story makes the moment even better. He taught himself to sing and play piano as a kid. He fell in love with Freddie Mercury’s mix of opera and rock. Then he built his own sound by mixing disco, dreamy pop, and classic rock into something bright and weird and totally himself.

He calls himself “a new kind of popstar.”

But Ballymully was not the first time Mickey turned a crowd into a choir. A few months earlier, he helped lead a huge Queen sing-along in the streets of Paris to celebrate 50 years of “Bohemian Rhapsody.”

Arriving in a horse-drawn carriage and joined by more than 30 musicians (including an 11-year-old guitar prodigy), he stunned strangers and lit up social media. That Paris moment is what launched his global buzz and set the stage for what happened at Ballymully Cottage Farm.

And if Ballymully is the moment everything clicked, Britain’s Got Talent is where the world first saw the spark. Before Paris, before the farm, Mickey stood on that TV stage and took on Queen’s “Somebody to Love” in front of Simon Cowell. The crowd roared, the judges argued, and Mickey calmly pushed back on being “just” a tribute act.
