The first part of biopic “Michael” already told you about the rise. The Jackson 5. Motown. Thriller. The Bad World Tour. That part of Michael’s story was always going to be incredible, and Jaafar Jackson did something remarkable bringing it to life.
But here’s what nobody is talking about: THE SEQUEL IS GOING TO BE A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT KIND OF MOVIE.
Lionsgate officially confirmed a second Michael film is in development following the record-shattering global success of the first.
The sequel would cover the later years of Jackson’s life — the Dangerous and Invincible eras, the construction of Neverland Ranch, and the high-profile legal battles that followed.
Biopic Michael – Part 1 Trailer
Director Antoine Fuqua confirmed there is “absolutely” roughly one-third of already-shot footage that could go into a potential Part 2.
“WE WENT PRETTY FAR,” HE SAID. “MAYBE A YEAR OR TWO AFTER 1995 WHEN THINGS TURNED AGAINST MICHAEL.”
That’s the part fans haven’t seen yet. The media wars. The isolation. The years when the whole world seemed to turn on him at once — and he kept making music anyway.
The first film wrapped up with Michael beginning the Bad World Tour, leaving several decades of material yet to be told — from the successes of Dangerous to the controversies that followed him for the rest of his life.
Michael Part 2 – Fan Concept Trailer
Lionsgate’s film chief, Adam Fogelson, told investors the studio is “really excited” about the progress on a second film and that all conversations with the appropriate parties continue to go well.
The first movie showed you the dream. Part two is probably going to show you what it cost him to keep it alive.
For anyone who thought they already knew Michael’s story — you’ve only seen half of it. Rumors suggest that the second part of the Michael movie will hit cinemas somewhere in the year 2028
