During the height of the AIDS crisis teenager Ryan White became nationally known after contracting HIV through contaminated treatment for hemophilia. Three days after the funeral Michael called Jeanne. He explained that he had promised Ryan an appearance in one of his future videos. Ryan was gone but Michael still wanted to keep that promise.
Michael later dedicated “Gone Too Soon” to Ryan. Its video included photographs and footage from Ryan’s life turning the appearance he never lived to film into a permanent tribute.
