Michael bundled up his three children and took them to a party at a private home in California. He wasn’t in a mask or a cape. He came as himself, in the kind of clothes he always wore.
The house belonged to a famous country singer. A Hollywood legend’s widow had asked her to invite Michael and the kids, and she came along with them that night. I’ll let the clips fill in those names.
Here’s where it gets funny.
The DJ spotted Michael walking in and figured he was looking at one of those professional look-alikes. So the DJ did the natural thing. He cued up “Thriller” and let it play while Michael crossed the room.

The woman who hosted the party later told the story in interviews, and she didn’t stop at the costume gag. She also said something warm about Michael’s oldest child, calling the youngster one of the most well-adjusted kids she had ever met. Coming from someone who was meeting the family for the first time, that stuck with people.
This was Michael’s final Halloween. He passed away the following year. That’s part of why fans hold this little story so close.
