Michael Jackson Had A Stage Disaster — And He Didn’t Even Flinch

Most performers would stop the show. But Michael Jackson never broke character

There are two moments that show exactly who he was when things went wrong on stage — and both of them say everything about the kind of professional he was.

There was an incident one time during a live performance, his mic wouldn’t come loose while singing; instead of stopping the show, he just went on to perform, holding the whole mic stand. Later, it came off mid-song, and Michael tackled that effortlessly.

THE MOMENT WAS SO SMOOTH THAT FANS DIDN’T EVEN NOTICE SOMETHING WAS WRONG. In fact, he turned it into a rhythmic dance move.

The Epic Mic “Save” On Stage

The second moment is on a completely different level.

June 27, 1999. Munich Olympic Stadium. Michael is performing “Earth Song” at the MJ and Friends charity concert when a mechanical failure causes the bridge he’s standing on to collapse into the stage pit.

HE FELL WITH IT, HIT THE GROUND HARD, AND SUFFERED BRUISING, A SPRAINED ANKLE, AND MINOR BURNS.

The Munich Performance – Bridge Collapse Moment

He climbed out of the pit. Walked back onto the stage. Finished Earth Song. Then performed You Are Not Alone as the encore.

He went to the hospital after the show, not before. That is how committed Michael was to his performances and audience.

The backstage crew was in tears. The audience didn’t fully understand what had just happened. Michael just kept going.

That concert was a charity event raising funds for children in Kosovo and Africa. He wasn’t going to let them down over a collapsed bridge.

That’s not stage presence. That’s something else entirely! Even in pain and during disastrous moments, Michael Jackson would display his utmost professionalism and carry on the show.
