Everything exploded on December 14, 1969, when the brothers performed on The Ed Sullivan Show, the biggest TV show in the country. Wearing a bright purple hat, 11-year-old Michael sang and danced with total confidence in front of millions of viewers. At the end of the night, host Ed Sullivan pointed to him and declared, “The little fella in front is incredible!” Six weeks later, “I Want You Back” hit No. 1 on the Billboard charts, followed by three more consecutive number-one hits.
That massive success changed everything. By 1971, the family moved from their small Indiana house to a grand estate in Encino, California. Michael did not make the journey alone—his brothers worked side by side with him, and his parents drove the vision.
