Imagine walking into an old, dusty storm cellar on a farm and finding a hidden treasure. That is exactly what happened to the family of the legendary country singer, Don Williams. They found secret recordings of his beautiful voice that had been sitting in the dark for over forty years!
Now, those songs are finally out on a brand-new album called Epilogue: The Cellar Tapes, and it has led to one of the year’s most heartwarming concerts.
To celebrate this amazing discovery, some of the biggest stars in music gathered at the famous Grand Ole Opry stage in Nashville for a special tribute show.
Big names like Keith Urban and Trisha Yearwood were there. But the person who stole the night was a young singer named John Foster. You might remember John as the incredibly talented runner-up from American Idol Season 23. He loves traditional country music, and this night was deeply personal for him.
John Foster Grand Opry Performances
When John stepped out under the bright lights, he started the show by singing Don Williams’ famous, toe-tapping hit, “Tulsa Time.” The crowd loved it, but the most magical moment happened right after the song ended.
John stopped to talk to the audience and shared a beautiful family secret. He revealed that back in 1973, Don Williams released a song called “Amanda.” John’s grandparents loved the song so much that they named John’s mother Amanda!

With his mom’s name on his mind, John looked out at the crowd and sang a soulful version of “Amanda” as a tribute to both his mother and the legendary singer. You could feel the love in the room as his smooth voice filled the giant theater. Before saying goodbye, he treated the cheering crowd to one more classic tune, “It Must Be Love.”
Don Williams was always called the “Gentle Giant” because he was tall and sang with a soft, comforting voice. Even though he passed away in 2017, his music is still bringing people together. Thanks to a hidden treasure found in a cellar and a young singer with a big heart, a whole new generation is falling in love with these classic songs. It just goes to show that great music—and a mother’s love—never goes out of style.
