While most singers tried to blow the roof off the building with loud voices, Hannah Harper did something very different.
She sat down, picked up her acoustic guitar, and sang a very quiet song called “Landslide.”
Now, some fans are a little grumpy. They feel like Hannah played it “too safe.” While other contestants like Keyla and Jordan were rocking out and bringing the heat, Hannah stayed in her cozy bubble. They are asking: Did she really follow the rules of the night?
Even though the song is slow and pretty, it’s actually a rock-and-roll song! It was written by Stevie Nicks, who is a queen of rock and roll. She was in a famous band called Fleetwood Mac. In the music world, we call this “Soft Rock” or “Folk Rock.”
The song “Landslide” is all about how life changes. It’s a song about growing up and feeling a little scared of the future. So, while it doesn’t have “clashing symbols” or “screaming vocals,” it has the heart and soul of a rock legend. Hannah wanted to show that rock can be quiet and beautiful, too.
The fans might be arguing, but the judges—Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie—totally loved it! They didn’t think it was “safe” at all. Instead, they thought it showed versatility.
The judges liked that the episode had some “calm” in the middle of all the “loud.” They praised Hannah for staying true to herself. Carrie Underwood even looked like she was about to cry because the singing was so pretty! They think Hannah is a star because she doesn’t have to “shout” to be heard.
Even though she got some criticism for being “boring” or “static,” Hannah’s fans are still very loyal. They say she doesn’t need to do backflips to win. However, as competition intensifies, some wonder whether she will have to “rock out” more to keep everyone happy.
