Hannah Harper Honors Her Family For Helping Her Chase Her Dream

When Hannah Harper won the massive trophy on American Idol, millions of fans cheered for her beautiful voice. It looked like a fairytale ending for the young singer. But right after the cameras turned off, Hannah broke down in tears and shared a big secret.

She did not win the show alone. In fact, she says her giant shiny trophy actually belongs to her husband, Devon Mendenhall.

In a touching new interview with USA Today Entertainment, Hannah opened up about the incredible sacrifices her family made behind the scenes. To help Hannah chase her big musical dream, Devon completely gave up his normal life. He put his job and hobbies on hold just to become a full-time dad to their three young children.

He even moved the entire family from their home in Missouri into a cramped Los Angeles hotel room for two whole months! Hannah cried as she called him “that poor man” and admitted she had no idea how she would ever repay him for his kindness.

Her parents also jumped in to help watch the kids so Hannah could practice her singing. Hannah reminded everyone that no one can win a big game without a great team—or a “village”—cheering them on.

To thank her wonderful family, Hannah did something incredibly brave during the grand finale. Instead of singing a famous pop song, she stood on stage and performed a brand-new original country song called “Married Into This Town.”

The sweet song tells the true story of how she left the busy city streets to marry a small-town boy wearing his grandma’s heirloom ring. She sang about the simple joys of her life in Willow Springs, Missouri, like eating cherry pie, folding laundry, and seeing high school football games on Friday nights. She even sang about shopping at the local dollar store! That was her way of honoring her family and the life she liked with them.

The celebrity judges, including superstar Carrie Underwood, were completely blown away by her honesty. They loved that Hannah started her Idol journey with a song about being a mom and ended it with a song about loving her family.

Hannah proved that you do not need Hollywood glamour to be a true star; sometimes, all you need is a loving family and a true story to tell.
