Most fans know Priscilla as the young woman Elvis fell for and later married. Fewer know where her own family story begins, and it’s a long way from Memphis.
This month Priscilla has been on tour across Scandinavia. She played Oslo on October 9, her first time back there since 2018, and her last show is tomorrow night in Randers, Denmark. The trip brought her close to a place that means more to her family than most people would ever guess.
Her mother, Ann, was the only daughter of a man named Albert Henry Iversen. He was born in a small Norwegian coastal town in 1899, and later he sailed across the ocean to build a new life in America. That little town never forgot the family that left its shores.
Years later the town did something lovely. It named a public square after Priscilla. The square sits right outside the old family house, on a quiet street where her grandparents once lived. For a town that size, putting a famous name out front like that is a real point of pride.
And when Priscilla first heard about it, back in 2008, she answered in just a few warm words. We’ll get to exactly what she said.
In this British television chat, Priscilla looks back on the years she spent with Elvis and the life they built together.
Priscilla remembers Elvis in a British TV interview
So where is this town, and what did Priscilla say when she got the news? The place is Egersund, a seaside town in the south of Norway. Her grandfather was born there in 1899, in the same family home the square now sits beside. A relative passed along the town’s plan to her, and today the square carries her full name for everyone who walks by.
Her reaction? She said, “Oh, it’s marvellous!” You can almost hear the delight in it.
It’s a sweet reminder that even a woman who spent her life beside the King of Rock and Roll has roots in a quiet corner of the world most fans have never heard of. It’s a name that traveled from a small Norwegian town all the way to Graceland, carried by a family who once crossed an ocean for a fresh start.
