Fifty years after Elvis Presley walked onto the stage at Tulsa’s Mabee Center for an unforgettable Independence Day performance, the arena is preparing to turn back the clock. On July 4, 2026, the venue will host “Elvis: Back in the Building,” a special tribute recreating the concert Elvis delivered at the same location during America’s Bicentennial celebrations in 1976. The show begins at 6 p.m. and will feature the original concert set list.
Organizers are aiming for something far more detailed than a standard collection of Elvis hits. Cote Deonath will recreate the show with the same entrance music, backing singers and musical arrangements. He will also wear a reproduction of Elvis’s original stage outfit. Mabee Center General Manager Tony Winters revealed that the venue still owns the piano Elvis played and plans to use it during the tribute. Previously unseen film recorded by a fan during the 1976 concert will also be shown before the performance begins.
Cote Deonath Bring the Elvis Concert Experience Back to Life
The performance above offers a closer look at why Deonath was selected for such a demanding recreation. He does not focus on only one period of Elvis’s career. His show moves from the rebellious rock ’n’ roll star of the 1950s to the commanding concert performer who filled arenas during the 1970s. Deonath won the Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest during Elvis Week in 2023 and has earned recognition from Graceland and Elvis Presley Enterprises.
The timing has been thoughtfully adjusted to 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. so families can enjoy the day with barbecues and still catch the concert before heading out for fireworks. Tony Winters, Mabee Center General Manager, shared his personal connection noting how Elvis bridged generations even in a Beatles town like his hometown of Liverpool.
Elvis Presley the King of Rock and Roll left an unmatched legacy through his groundbreaking music films and charismatic performances that continue to inspire millions. From his early days shaking up the charts to his legendary live shows he defined an era and brought joy to fans worldwide. Cote Deonath and the team at the Mabee Center are keeping that spirit alive with this faithful tribute that celebrates both the artist and America’s birthday in true style.
