Did you know that Elvis Presley used to throw a 4th of July party so wild it almost burned down his own house? Every year, the King of Rock and Roll celebrated America’s birthday at his famous home, Graceland.
But he did not just wave little flags. Instead, Elvis and his closest friends started giant fireworks wars right on the front lawn!
Elvis loved his country, but he also loved big thrills. His cousin, Billy Smith, once said that Elvis bought thousands of dollars of massive fireworks. They would launch huge six-inch bombs hundreds of feet into the air!

The sky over Graceland lit up with bright colors and loud booms. It was exciting, a little bit dangerous, and completely unforgettable.
“One of the most dangerous things Elvis liked to do was shoot off fireworks… Hell, we could have put somebody’s eye out or burnt the house down…” — Billy Smith, Elvis’s cousin.
But Elvis did not just show his love for America with loud explosions. In the 1970s, he gave the country something even more powerful: his music. He began singing a legendary medley of songs called “An American Trilogy.”
Elvis Presley – An American Trilogy (Aloha From Hawaii, Live in Honolulu, 1973)
This song was a beautiful mix of three different old American tunes. When Elvis sang it on stage in his flashy jumpsuits, the whole room went quiet. He poured so much emotion into the words that people in the audience would cry. His 1973 Aloha from Hawaii concert performance of this song is still considered one of the greatest musical moments in TV history. It showed that beneath all the fame, Elvis had a deep, heartfelt love for his homeland.
Today, visitors still flock to Graceland every July to see beautiful fireworks shows set to his music. It is a wonderful way to remember a man who loved America in his own big, loud, and beautiful way. So, this 4th of July, put on some old records and let the King light up your sky once again!
