Ella Langley is one of the biggest new voices in country music right now. The singer was born May 3, 1999, and grew up in Hope Hull, Alabama. Her song “Choosin’ Texas” went all the way to No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot 100, the chart that counts every kind of music, not only country. In April 2026 her album “Dandelion” opened at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart.
But a few years back, nobody was handing her trophies.
She was playing wherever they’d let her. She describes those days as “walking into bars with a tip jar and a guitar.”
And back home there was a little sister watching all of it.
Her name is Katie, and she’s eight years younger than Ella. Big sisters tend to make big promises to little sisters, and this one did. Long before any of the hits, Ella told Katie she’d do something special for her when she finished high school.
Katie didn’t forget it. She didn’t treat it like a maybe, either.
She held onto it for years. When Katie got her own parking spot at school, she painted it with a picture of exactly what she was waiting for. Ella put it this way. “She literally painted a Hawaiian flower in her parking spot, so she has taken it very seriously.”
So you can probably guess where this is going.
The promise was a trip to Hawaii. Ella’s exact words to her sister, all those years before, were: “if I make it in music at the time you graduate, enough where I can afford for us to go, I’ll take you to Hawaii.”
That’s a big “if” for a girl with a tip jar.
She made it. Katie graduated in 2025, and by then her big sister’s career had taken off. Ella got to deliver the news she’d been waiting years to say: “surprise for your graduation. I’m taking you to Hawaii. It’s actually happening.”
She told the whole story on Audacy’s “Katie & Company” with host Katie Neal in July 2025, and it’s worth hearing her tell it in her own words.

The sisters went over the Fourth of July holiday in 2025, and they brought a few friends from home along for the ride. Ella shared photos and videos from the trip on Instagram with a simple caption: “Girls trip to Hawaii.”
Home was on her mind in that same talk. She’d recently bought a house back in Hope Hull, the small Alabama community where she grew up. “It just brings me back to who I am at the root of me every time I go back there,” she said.
As for Katie, that flower on her parking spot did its job. Her big sister kept her word, and the girls got their trip.
