Ella Langley is having the kind of year most singers only dream about.
Her song “Choosin’ Texas” just spent its 26th week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Whiskey Riff calls it the first song in history to stay at No. 1 there for half a year. The song came out on Oct 17, 2025, and it’s still going strong.
If you’re just getting to know her, Ella is a 27-year-old country singer from Hope Hull, Alabama. She’s the second of four children of Jason and Heather Langley. She’s got more music on the way, too. Her new song “Here Then We’re Gone” is on “The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping (The Album),” which comes out next Friday, Nov 13. The movie opens in theaters Nov 20.
Today, though, let’s talk about her dad. And her arms.
Like plenty of country dads, Jason Langley wasn’t thrilled when his little girl started getting tattoos. Ella has been honest about it. On the Bobby Bones Show in July 2025, she said her dad got upset over every single tattoo she came home with.
One bothered him more than all the rest. It was the very first one, and she got it when she was 18.
So what did she pick?
A treble clef. That’s the curly little music symbol you see at the start of a line of sheet music.
And here’s the twist that makes fans laugh. Ella still can’t read music.
Think about that for a second. The woman behind a record-setting No. 1 song put a sheet-music symbol on her body as a teenager, and to this day she couldn’t read a page of the stuff if you handed it to her. Her dad was upset about a tattoo that, in a way, she can’t even use.
Jason’s reactions didn’t stop there, either.
Years later, he spotted a little bumblebee on her arm. Ella retold the moment in a September 2024 TikTok, and People quoted her dad’s question word for word: “What is that bug on your arm?”
People reports he wasn’t a fan of that one either. The bee is a nod to her mom Heather’s nickname for her, “Ella Bee.”
You can almost hear the Alabama accent in that line. Any parent who has ever squinted at something new on a grown kid’s skin knows exactly how Jason felt.
