Darci Lynne, the talented ventriloquist who won America’s Got Talent when she was only 12, is stepping into a new phase of her life. At 19, she has a new home, a new boyfriend, and even a new career path. Fans who remember her as a young girl with puppets are now seeing her as a young woman, and it’s a big change for everyone.

“It’s crazy for a lot of people,” Darci said in a recent interview. “They all have that 12year old in mind whenever my name comes-up. And so now its like, ‘Oh my gosh, she’s growing up.’” Darci is growing up, and she’s also taking a big-step forward in her career. She’s now a singer-songwriter, and her debut single, “Push Our Luck,” has just been released.

“I started writing music in quarantine, and its just something that I’ve come to be super passionate about,” she explained. While ventriloquism gave her the start she needed and brought her many fans, she’s excited to share this new part of herself. “It’s important that I show this side of me and show that I can hold my own as a solo-artist now singing with my mouth-open,” she said, laughing.

Even though she still loves her puppets—like Petunia, Oscar, Edna, and Katie—Darci has been showing off her singing skills more and more. During her recent tours, she’s performed for her fans, and now she’s using her personal experiences to create songs like “Push Our Luck.”

The song was inspired by a date she went on when she was younger. “I met this one boy that I really liked, and we went out on a date for the first time,” she said. Back then, Darci had a midnight curfew and tried her best to follow it.

But the story behind “Push Our Luck” is about the thrill of staying out late, even when you know you shouldn’t. In the song’s music video, filmed in Oklahoma, Darci brings back those moments of fun and freedom.

“Everyone’s been there and had those first-time feelings,” she explained. “Theres this internal conflict. Youre going to be in so much trouble, but you stay out anyway because you’re just having so much fun.”

The music video not only shows Darci acting but also singing on stage. It gives fans a chance to see her in a new way.

“My mantra is I don’t want to be put in a box or limited in any way,” Darci said. She explained that singing has always been important to her. “Singing always came first. Singing is what I grew-up doing as long as I can remember. And then the ventriloqusm came around. Now Im able to step-out and be more confident in my own skin without the puppet.”

Even though she’s doing big things, Darci says her life is still like most teenagers. “All these songs that I’m writing are about everything I’m going through right now,” she said.

One interesting part of “Push Our Luck” is that it was inspired by her ex-boyfriend. Darci even told him about it. “We’re friends, so it’s all good,” she said. “At the time when we were dating , I showed him the song, and he reallly liked it. But now we’re just friends.”

Darci has since started dating someone new. She shared that she met her boyfriend at a wedding in December. “He was really nervous to talk to me,” she said. “I think that’s why I liked him so much. He came up to me and just wanted to tell me how much he appreciated what I do. And I don’t think he expected me to give him my number, but there was something about him.”
