Carrie Underwood has always had a little rockstar hiding under the country crown.
And on the American Idol finale, she let that side take the whole stage.
Carrie joined Mötley Crüe on Monday night, May 11, for two huge ’80s rock songs, “Home Sweet Home” and “Kickstart My Heart.” Afterward, she summed it up in the most Carrie way possible. She said she was “living my best rockstar life.”
Honestly, was there a better way to say it?

This was not Carrie trying on rock music like a costume. She looked happy there. Comfortable there. Like the louder the guitars got, the more awake she became.
The performance started with “Home Sweet Home,” giving Carrie room to lean into the emotional side of rock. Then came “Kickstart My Heart,” and the whole thing turned bigger, louder, and hotter. That is where Carrie’s voice really showed why this crossover worked.
She did not get swallowed by the noise.
She rode right over it.
Two Iconic Hits, One Epic Finale: Mötley Crüe and Carrie Underwood Rock ‘American Idol’ 2026
And this was not random. Earlier this season, Carrie performed “Rebel Yell” with Billy Idol and Steve Stevens. She has also shared stages with Joan Jett, Steven Tyler, Papa Roach, and even opened for Guns N’ Roses on select tour dates.
So maybe this is not Carrie stepping outside herself.
Maybe this is Carrie opening another room in the same house.
Stop for a second. She won American Idol in 2005 as a young country singer. Now she is back as a judge, standing on that same finale stage, singing with Mötley Crüe like she has been waiting for someone to hand her the leather jacket.
Carrie may live in country music.
But when the amps turn up, she looks right at home.
