Why This Famous Talent Show Judge Is Now Saying Sorry

For years, Simon Cowell was the man everyone loved to fear on American Idol. Sharp tongue, harsh comments, faces that could crush a dream in seconds. Now, right before Idol returns for Season 24 and just ahead of his new Netflix series “Simon Cowell: The Next Act,” he is finally saying the words no one expected: “I am sorry.”

Fans are saying that he is getting people to like him because he is invested in his own show on Netflix.

In a new interview, Simon admits he has “critic’s remorse.” He says he was never trying to be a “dk” on purpose. In his mind, he was doing what real record label executives do, cutting through the noise to find the one voice that could sell records. If someone could not sing, he wanted to say it fast.

Simon now says he was often bored, tired, and fed up on long audition days. Out of a hundred kind comments, producers would choose the one moment he snapped, because it made “better television.” Watching old clips today, he can see the shock on people’s faces and admits, “I probably went too far.”

imon credits his son, Eric, for softening his judging style on America’s Got Talent. Becoming a dad forced him to see every contestant as someone’s child.

The clip below gathers many of those comments in one place, from mocking how people look to saying “you cannot sing” without a second thought.
