Barbra Streisand Just Gave Her Son The Most Honest Compliment

Her post about Jason Gould’s new album, “Where We Fall,” starts with pure heart. She says he “floored” her again and that she is “sooo proud to be his mama.” You can almost hear the smile in those words. But then she switches into the voice we all know so well from a lifetime of classic records. She talks about his “sound,” his “soul,” and his “musicality” in a very precise way, like a producer listening in the studio.

That mix is what makes this moment feel special. This is Barbra Streisand, one of the greatest voices of all time, stopping in her tracks because of a song called “Solitude” from Jason’s album.

The project itself is full of mood and story. A piano on a lonely island at sunset. A quiet room with peeling wallpaper and one empty chair. A couple dancing in tall grass like a memory you cannot quite let go of. It all matches the sound of a classic Duke Ellington standard reborn with a modern, cinematic touch.

What a voice!  My son Jason Gould just floored me again!

Before Jason Gould ever released “Where We Fall” or filmed the cinematic “Solitude” video, he stepped into the studio with his mother to record “How Deep Is the Ocean.” It was the first time many people saw them share a mic, a melody, and the same quiet, careful phrasing.

Here, his voice sits on top of a richer, more modern sound with gentle pop and dance textures, shaped by Grammy-winning producer Guy Roche. The song leans into themes of finding your voice and standing in your own truth, which feels very real for an artist who grew up in the shadow of two legends.
